Volunteer fire company turns to unique fundraising approach

This Fundraising office is the combined effort of the Chattanooga & Cleveland Fire Fighters Associations. Callers are contacting residents by phone and asking them to purchase tickets for a benefit concert in an effort to raise money for local programs. Rest assured, your support is made directly payable to your local fire fighters association and will only be used in your area. Each year, we put together fundraising events such as our Pancake Breakfasts and our Chicken BBQ. All money goes to back to the department for the purchase of new equipment and gear. Without the public’s support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
Or an unethical telemarketer may thank you for previous donations, even if you never made any. FACT – Some professional fundraisers have been known to imply that you will be better protected if you make a donation. For example, you may be told that emergency police or fire response to your house will be faster. You should immediately be suspicious of any organization making such a claim. Simply purchase a large amount of buttons from a company dedicated to providing materials for fundraisers and/or charities. You can even invest in a button-making machine and make the buttons yourself. Basically, you’ll sell these buttons to your supporters at events and various happenings within your community. For example, if your community is holding a festival, place a lit tle table alongside a heavily walked area and watch the buttons sell faster than hot cakes.Protfitable fire department fundraising ideas
Other fundraisers will cost more but will offer a higher profit percentage. Often, you will notice that the more you sell, the higher your profit. As the old fundraising saying goes, “Where there’s people, sell them something” if there is a larger event or festival, consider selling pizza-by-the-slice. This works especially well at all-day festivals, as some people only need a slice of pizza to curve their hunger. Consider opening up a pizza booth and selling only pizza slices in three varieties, such as cheese-only, pepperoni and veggie pizza. Talk with your local pizza restaurants and see if they would be willing to donate pizza or offer slices at a discounted rate.

Some because we “eat our own” in how we treat our members who volunteer to be there. And some simply because people don’t have time to join volunteer fire departments anymore. The answer is for those in every community served by volunteers to pay taxes. For every dollar, you will have to account – no different than you demanding other forms of government not piss away your own hard-earned taxes. The Huntersville Fire Department receives funding from the Town of Huntersville as well as funding from a ‘fire tax’. We DO NOT solicit by phone nor do we solicit door-to-door for donations.
Your skills and support can make a difference in your community. There’s always something that needs to be replaced because of age, incompatibility, changing NFPA standards, or other reasons. You can’t put a new 5-foot 130-pound firefighter in the gear that belonged to the 6-foot 250-pound firefighter who retired.
It took two years of fundraising to raise the $50,000 needed to put that new equipment into service. Some of the money came from grants (bless the volunteers who write grant applications for rural fire departments). We held fundraisers on 4th of July and Labor Day weekends each year (bless the families who understand why we disappear on holidays).
